FingerPaints Kaleidoscope Collection

Yesterday, my sister and I went to Sally Beauty Supply to browse around, and look what I found! Kaleidoscope by FingerPaints... a collection of 5 brand-new color shifting FLAKIES! :)

I hadn't heard anything about this before stumbling upon the display at Sally Beauty. Apparently, this collection is so new that it's not even on the website yet! At first glance, I wondered if FingerPaints was simply repromoting the Special Effects Collection from 2012... NOPE! These are completely new shades with different names,  pastel color-shifting flakies, and a MUCH less yellowed base!

Check out these pics I took in the store...

FingerPaints Abstract Attraction

Abstract Attraction shifts aqua, turquoise, blue, violet, and pink.

Colorful Dream shifts through the pastel rainbow... pink, orange, yellow, aqua, turquoise, blue, and violet.

FingerPaints Psychedelic Hue

Psychedelic Hue shifts predominantly green, but there's yellow, blue, and violet in there, too.

FingerPaints Symmetrical Symphony

Symmetrical Symphony reminds me of China Glaze Snow Globe. Rather than glitter, it has flakies that flash similar tones of orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.

FingerPaints Vivid Reflection

Vivid Reflection is my favorite of the bunch... It's a flaky with a strong purple, pink, red, orange shift.

Thanks to the generosity of my favorite sister, 3 out of 5 came home with me. Vivid Reflection was an automatic no-brainer, mainly because of my obsession with colors like The Uptown from Color Club and Cirque Coronation. I also chose Abstract Attraction and Colorful Dream to join my stash.

It looks like FingerPaints has really been working on the formula of their base. My Special Effects collection was already yellowing when I purchased it, and the base has gotten more yellow over time. The Kaleidoscope Collection is such a strong contrast from that. Definitely an improvement, and they swatch beautifully!

Seeing them layered over black really gives you a good idea of the color flash you can expect. I'm really pleased with the colors I picked up from this collection. I'm almost tempted to go back and pick up the other two!

In case you're on the fence about any of the colors I picked up from the Kaleidoscope Collection versus the 2012 Special Effects collection... here's a photo I took so you can compare the flakies before you buy.

FingerPaints Twisted, Motley, Flecked, Flashy, Asylum, Abstract Attraction, Colorful Dream, Vivid Reflection

Definitely no dupes that I'm seeing. I'd call the Kaleidoscope Collection a pastel sister to the Special Effects Collection. It's definitely got its own thing going on, and I like it! Coverage is great, too. I used 2 coats of each flaky for my swatches. If you like layering as much as I do, you'll definitely love this collection! I wouldn't waste much time picking it up, either. I can see this one selling out fast!!!

What do you think of the FingerPaints Kaleidoscope Collection?

  1. Wow, pretty! So glad I found your post. But man the Special Effects collection looks so much nicer even though the formula wasn't nice. IMO

  2. I have the full Special Effects collection and love them. Not sure what Mimisan is referring to about the formula....I haven't had any trouble with them at all. With that said, I love the vibrancy of the colors, the new collection doesn't seem nearly as vibrant...actually they seem a bit murky. I think I'll pass on those. =)
