My original plan for this mani was to simply paint my nails with Blue By You, then top that with Fantasy Fire. Simple enough, but where's the fun in that? Then, I thought I could do a seriotype mani like last week, and cover that with Fantasy Fire. Try to get all the different flashes and colors on one nail. I quickly realized that was going to take a little more planning. So, I settled on Blue By You, topped with Ahoy!, with random brushings of Blue By You and Ahoy on top to make each nail a little different.
Then came the magic...
Two coats of Max Factor Fantasy Fire turned this layering into an all. out. sparklefest. I mean... just looooook at that sparkle...

Fantasy Fire from Max Factor is similar to Clarins 230, an
extremely hard to find rare polish dubbed Unicorn Pee by polish enthusiasts. Clarins 230 was discontinued. After it, came Urban Decay Toxin. Which was also discontinued. Then, circa 2012ish, (to the best of my knowledge) Max Factor came out with Fantasy Fire. Which sadly, they've recently announced they're reformulating.
(So, basically? Discontinued.)
But nail polish gets discontinued all the time right? Well, yeah... but when it's a shade like Fantasy Fire... it's a sad day in the nail polish world. I've been lemming Fantasy Fire for a long time. The discontinuation is what prompted me to buy it, and I'm sure others will soon follow suit.
Why is it so rare? Well... Clarins 230, Urban Decay Toxin, and Max Factor Fantasy Fire all contain a really unique color-shifting pigment that flashes through the entire rainbow. Red to orange to gold to green to blue. But most noticeably, red to green. I have no idea what the pigment is made of, but it seems to be in short supply, and only available for limited amounts of time. I honestly don't know. It's a rare bird, and I'm sooooo glad I had a chance to add it to the sparklestash before it becomes even harder to find.
Overall, this is one lemming I'm very glad I squashed, and one that was definitely worth all that drool. I've definitely satisfied a lot of lemmings in the past few years of polish collecting, and it's not always this satisfying. Sometimes, we really do build up an idea in our heads to be so wonderful and grandiose, the real thing leaves us feeling deflated and sullen. Max Factor Fantasy Fire is not one of those things. Definitely worth purchasing. In fact, I'd go so far as saying that you might want to purchase more than one bottle if you get the chance!
