Layering: Fairy Gloss-Parents
Can i just say that I think I'm in love with this layering? It all came to me randomly last night as I was painting Skull & Glossbones on my nails. It needed glitter. I could add pink. Glitter Sandwich? Don't mind if I do! Here's how it all turned out...
I think this is one of the girliest and prettiest layerings I've ever done. This reminds me of sequins on chiffon or tulle... Tres Princess-y. It's so delicate... Love. It.
Polishes Used:
1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats OPI Skull & Glossbones
1 Coat Sally Hansen Satin
3-4 Coats Spoiled Jewelry Heist
1 Coat OPI Bubble Bath
1 Coat OPI Top Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite
On its own, Skull & Glossbones is actually a great neutral shade. It might be the next to make it on my toes for this spring, since I've been into creamy tan colors lately. Pretty, yes... but it needed something.
So I added a coat of Sally Hansen Satin. This warmed up the layering a little bit, and reminded me that I still had yet to try Jewelry Heist from Spoiled in a layering. I grabbed that and decided to do a gradient rather than a full-on glittering. Jewelry Heist has a very faint pink tinge, so it actually added a nice effect in addition to sparkly glitter.
The magic happened when I layered OPI Bubble Bath over everything. It dulled down the glitter in Jewelry Heist to the super pretty shades you see above. Light pink, copper, and purple-grey glitter with iridescent fine glitter. So very preeeeeettttty.
I've used Spoiled polishes before, but this was one of my few experiences with their glitter, and I think it reminded me of why I probably haven't used Jewelry Heist. The base of it is super thick, and the glitter looks plentiful in the bottle, but doesn't translate that way during application. It was pretty sparse. I had to fish around for glitter with each new swipe, and that was after having the bottle upside-down so the glitter would move to the top.
Sigh.
While I love the look of Jewelry Heist, it was really annoying to work with. I'm not sure if it was because I was doing a gradient, but it was very gloppy and I didn't get great coverage with each coat. 4 coats is a bit much for such minimal payoff. This polish would benefit greatly from being thinned and losing about half of the base polish. Anyone have a glitter sieve handy?
Seriously, though. I really like how this layering turned out, especially from such a random idea. Now about that sieve...
