Layering: Zoya Tru

Some layerings practically paint themselves, and this one is an excellent example! Tru has a fine pink shimmer that was begging to be emphasized and turned into my first ever FLAKY gradient mani...

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
2 Coats Zoya Tru
Sally Hansen Aisle Be There (Gradient)
Fingerpaints Flashy (Gradient)
1 Coat L'Oreal Lilac Coolers
1 Coat OPI Top Coat
1 Coat Essie Good to Go

Tru by Zoya is a "saturated, red-toned grape purple with speckled shimmer that reflects gold, orange and red." So naturally, I paired it with Aisle Be There from Sally Hansen and Fingerpaints Flashy. Aisle Be There is an understated fine pink shimmer in a clear base. Flashy is your "typical" flaky... It flashes from red to orange to green. (Think Essie Shine of the Times and Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure.)

Notice how I have "Gradient" behind Aisle Be There and Flashy? Well... I honestly lost count with my coats. I started with two coats of Aisle Be There on my tips, then added a coat of Flashy. From there, I alternated and piled on the layers, and you're guess is really as good as mine would be. "To taste" is really the best description I can come up with. Which in my case means, why use 5 coats when 20 will do? Just Kidding. (Sort of.)

I really like the subtlety of this manicure. The idea was just to punch up the shimmer in Tru, and Aisle Be There and Flashy were the perfect polishes to achieve this look. Looking at the pics now, I regret not trying a reverse gradient. The shimmer effects are incredibly forgiving if you're not so artistically inclined. I have quite a few shimmer, glitter, and flaky polishes in my collection that are just begging to be used in similar layerings. How does that old saying go... creativity begets creativity?!? :)
