12 Manicures of Christmas 05 // Christmas Skittles 3.0

Red, Green, and Gold are the colors of the season, and when they come together in a skittle manicure... it's something magical! I've done a version of Christmas Skittles the past two years, and I'd be remiss if I didn't continue the tradition. Plus, it's always fun to look back at similar manis and see just how far you've come. So, without further ado, Christmas Skittles v3.0...

1 Coat Fingerpaints Smooth Over Ridge Filler
China Glaze Glittering Garland
China Glaze Holly-Day
China Glaze Ravishing Dahling!
China Glaze Twinkle Lights
Orly Gossip Girl
1 Coat SinfulColors Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

These skittles are just about as Christmasy as a manicure can get! And I know I say this every year, but this is my favorite set of Christmas Skittles yet. There's just something about the combination of the deep crimson red in Ravishing Dahling with the greens of Holly-Day and Glittering Garland. And then there's Twinkle Lights, one of my favorite Holiday glitter polishes ever. I missed out on Party Hearty, and yes... I'm still a little bit bitter. A little bit.

On to the individual polishes.

Gossip Girl is a glitter polish from Orly's latest collection Infamous. While you can't see it at all on my nails, it's a mix of small red hex glitter and large gold hex glitter. At first, I was going to blend it with Twinkle Lights, but instead, I used it as a base for Twinkle Lights. Don't worry, I'll be showcasing it soon enough, I just have to figure out exactly the best way to do that.

Ravishing Dahling is part of China Glaze's core collection. I don't recall having issues with it before, but it was a little streaky. I thought I had everything evened out at five coats, but I still notice some splotches. Hard to say if one more coat would remedy that or not. But the shade of crimson? Swoooooon. I love this shade for the Holidays. Love. It.

As far as the others, they were all part of the China Glaze Let It Snow Collection from 2011. It's a collection that holds a special place in my heart, because that was right around the time that I got really into nail polish and blogging. It was the first collection I went out searching for and bought six out of the twelve shades. A massive haul at the time.

Glittering Garland is a gorgeous evergreen jelly bursting with lighter green shimmer. Holly-Day is a creme, slightly lighter shade of green. Twinkle Lights is a glitter topper that's overflowing with small green, red, and gold glitters. I almost hesitate to call it a topper because of all that glitter! All three polishes went on without issue. Twinkle Lights is a little thick because of all the glitter, but still very workable. Also worth pointing out, I didn't have to thin out any of these polishes, and I've had them since 2011.

You know, thinking about those first days of nail polish hunting and starting my first blog really takes me back. So much has changed since four years ago. And not just colors or finishes, brands, blogging, the rise of indies... it's been a wild ride! I think the thing I miss the most is walking into a store and being completely blindsided by a collection that I hadn't read anything about. That rarely happens nowadays! And it makes me curious... what are some things you miss about your first days of nail polish hunting or blogging? Let me know in the comments!

Aaaaand just in case you're interested in some Ghosts of Manicures Past...

SinfulColors Mauve On Seriotype

Whether you call it a seriotype or smooshy... (I prefer seriotype) there is just something about this style of manicure that I can't get enough of.  Polishes Used:  1 Coat Fingerpaints Smooth Out Ridge Filler 3 Coats SinfulColors Mauve On Essie Leggy Legend Pahlish Autumn People Pure Ice Get in Line 1 Coat SinfulColors Clear Coat 1 Coat Seche Vite Hey there! It's been a little while, hasn't it? Sorry about that. Life happens, you know? Oddly enough, I didn't stop painting my nails during my hiatus. I kept taking pictures for a while, and then that just sort of stopped to. Weird how some habits die hard, while others don't change a bit.  Anyhoo... I found pictures of this mani in my files and couldn't believe I didn't share it! This was one of my favorite polishes last spring, and I recreated this exact seriotype/ a few times.  This mani started out with 3 fresh coats of Mauve On. I typically wrap my tips on the 2nd c

Fishbowl Friday 073 // Recreation

Every now and then, I enjoy looking back over past manicures. Creatively, it's just neat to see how far I've come since the days I started. Oddly enough, when I chose this prompt, I knew exactly which manicure I wanted to recreate. Based loosely on Fishbowl Friday 027 , today's seriotype nails are a RECREATION ...  Polishes Used: 1 Coat Fingerpaints Smooth Over Ridge Filler 3 Coats China Glaze Violet Vibes Essie Leggy Legend Pahlish Autumn People Pure Ice Get in Line SinfulShine Konstellation 2 Coats SinfulColors Clear Coat 1 Coat Seche Vite Looking back, I can honestly say that my seriotype game has come far since I first learned the method. One of the things that took me a while to master was the balance of nail polish finishes. While seriotypes made exclusively with creme polishes look cool, those made with a combination of different finishes really pop. There's more depth involved when you layer a metallic over a jelly neon and

Fishbowl Friday 072 // Hard Candy

We're going to skip that whole part where we talk about how it's been a while, because well, it's been a really long while. I'm still trying to work out how to make room for blogging and juggle everything else, and it's definitely been a challenge. But know that I am working on it, and I do really, really miss it. This place has been my Quantum of Solace for a long time, and I'm not planning on letting it go anytime soon. That being said... for this week's prompt, I was happily surprised when I pulled HARD CANDY . This is probably one of the most iconic brands of nail polish, and it's certainly gone through it's own number of changes throughout the years. Who didn't want to own a bottle of Sky once they saw it on Alicia Silverstone's nails way back in the 90's? Last year, Hard Candy celebrated their 20th anniversary by bringing back some of their most iconic shades. The collection was a mix of five original shades and three new ones.
