Fishbowl Friday 052 // Opal

Happy, Happy Friday... Happy Friday to you! Today is actually an extra special Friday because Fishbowl Friday is officially one year old! It's really hard to believe that I've been bringing you this series every Friday for an entire year!!! The prompt I drew for today was OPAL...

Opalescent Layering Manicure

Opalescent Glitter Manicure

Opalescent Nails

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Fingerpaints Smooth Over Ridge Filler
2 Coats Essie No More Film
2 Coats OPI Last Friday Night
2 Coats Frankenflaky
1 Coat OPI Last Friday Night
1 Coats SinfulColors Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

When I think of OPAL, I try not to think of the sheen on the bathroom sink at Chez Sparkle. That's not the kind of OPAL I, or really anyone else for that matter, likes. We all know that I love glitter and sparkles, and when its of the opalescent variety, it can be a seriously magical thing. Since I truly believe in overdoing glitter and sparkles 103% of the time, I went with a mix of opalescent glitter and opalescent color-shifting flakies to create this look.

First off... I started with a base coat of Essie No More Film. It's a slightly purple leaning blue that isn't too dark, but isn't too light either. Perfect for showing off allllll that flaky goodness. Next, I added two coats of Last Friday Night. I chose Last Friday Night specifically for the cooler blend of opalescent glitter. There's mainly blue and green hex glitter with a few random coppery gold hexes and blue shimmer.

I could've stopped there, but I thought it would be fun to add a little more color and sparkle. I added 2 coats of my Frankenflaky, which is basically every flaky polish from my collection mixed into one bottle. That added the warmer colors and flakies you see in the layering. I ended up warming it up a little too much and added another coat of Last Friday Night to tone it down.

Normally, I finish all my manicures off with a coat of clear followed by a coat of Seche Vite. This time around, I used 2 coats of SinfulColors Clear Coat because I thought my end result looked a little dull. I'm so glad I did, because the end result is gorgeous and so shiny! Is it bad that I'm thinking about mattifying it?!? So weird, right?

Speaking of weird... I kind of can't believe that Fishbowl Friday has been going on for a year! 52 weeks of Fishbowl Fridays and I still really enjoy this series!!! It's turned into a comforting sort of constant here at Seize the Sparkle... and that's never a bad thing!

So, another Friday is here, and no, Peanut is nawt potty trained yet. But we're going to work on that this weekend, along with cleaning out our garage. Woo-hoo! Fall cleaning really is a thing, and I'm determined to find my mixer so I can stop borrowing my mom's already! Who knows what else we'll find!!!
