Layering: Gothic Fairy Cooler
Do I like giving my layering manis strange names? Why, yes. Yes, I do. Thanks for asking!
Now that I have all of the Miss Candy jelly polishes from L'Oreal... I'll probably be doing jelly sandwiches and layering manis on a daily basis. I love layering polishes to create new and different looks. This one actually surprised me, though!
Polishes Used:
1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
2 Coats China Glaze Gothic Lolita
1 Coat SOPI Sugar Plum Faeries Gone Wild
2 Coats L'Oreal Lilac Coolers
1 Coat Seche Vite
Lilac Coolers is a pastel jelly from the L'Oreal Miss Candy Spring 2013 Collection. The finish on this polish was much different than what I'm used to seeing. All of the pastel jellies I've seen have a milky finish. They lend themselves more to "Crelly" Sandwich Manicures rather than "Jelly" Sandwich Manis. Lilac Coolers might be a pastel jelly, but it's not milky like other pastel jelly polishes you've seen. It's a pretty lavender jelly polish, definitely unique in my collection. (And I can't think of any dupes, to be honest.)
Gothic Lolita was the closest match for a base color from my collection, so I started with 2 coats of that. I thought about using contrasting glitter, but in the end, I went with one of my favorite glitter polishes... SOPI Sugar Plum Faeries Gone Wild... "medium and chunky" purple glitter, according to Sephora.
When I added Lilac Coolers... something interesting happened. The non-holographic glitter turned...
Blue!
Okay... purplish-blue... but still, blue! I wasn't expecting that, but I like the look of it. The holographic purple glitter and the smaller purple glitter turned a warmer shade of lavender. (This was the effect I was expecting.)
Preeeeeetty.
The formula on Lilac Coolers was awesome, very easy to work with and control whether you wanted thin or thick coats. The brush is wider than normal, but not the moppy mess that you find with some brands. I would say this is about 2/3 the width of the crazy mop brushes. It allows for incredibly smooth application and precision strokes. I hope all of the jellies in this collection are just as easy to work with!
