31 Day Challenge 2014: *04*

Here we are... Day 4. Yesterday, it was yellow. Today, it's Green! My photos are brought to you by my iPhone 5s, because the incredible mintiness of this polish completely baffled my Cybershot. (i.e. homie don't play greens or purples.)

Today marks the first time I have ever mattified a manicure. The inspiration for this mani totally came from this post, in which Naz definitely captured her matte mint and color-shifting flaky waaaaaay better than I did. This turned out to sadly be one of those manis that looks waaaaay better in real life than it does in photos. Boo. :(

I'm not sure when I picked up Mint Tropics, but it has gone unswatched, (like too many polishes in my stash) and that's something I'm really trying to remedy with this challenge. It's a bright yellow-leaning mid-toned green creme. This is also the first time I've swatched Asylum... one of my beloved flakies from Fingerpaints. Its clear base (that has yellowed over time) houses flakies that flash red-orange and blue-purple.

Matte manicures have always turned me off a little. I suppose it's my love of all things that sparkle. It just feels wrong to diminish the shine of glitter or flakies, you know? But I'm happy to say that I was wrong! I actually LOVE the way this layering looks mattified, and I wish it would've photographed more clearly.

A funny thing I thought I'd mention... I honestly had no idea if I should use the Matte Top Coat alone, or if it would work over a quick-dry top coat like Seche Vite. I searched for a how-to online, but didn't really turn up any answers. I figured I'd just wing it and it ended up working out. So, if you've been wondering that same thing... there you have it... Polish(es), Quick-Dry Top Coat, Matte Top Coat. You'll be good to go!

In all honesty, I had trouble figuring out what I wanted to do for this prompt. I thought about swatching Nails Inc. Kensington with The Wyndham Overcoat, but I just couldn't do it. Which makes no sense, because I've been able to wear black, so I should be open to dark greens and vampy reds, but apparently I'm holding on to this summer thing with everything I've got, y'all!

Tomorrow's prompt is BLUE, and this one should come a liiiiittle easier than green. I think. ;)
